Family Faith at Church & Home

When parents bring their children to be baptized, they take on the important and sacred responsibility of bringing them up in the Christian Faith. These are the words from the service for The Sacrament of Holy Baptism:

“As you bring your children to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with responsibilities:
to live with them among God’s faithful people,
bring them to the word of God and the holy supper,
teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments,
place in their hands the holy scriptures,
and nurture them in faith and prayer,
so that your children may learn to trust God,
proclaim Christ through word and deed,
care for others and the world God made,
and work for justice and peace.”

A child’s first Christian teachers are his parents. But they are not alone in this duty. The congregation, also, promises to provide support and resources for parents and their children at church and in the home.

Faith Formation at Church

Currently, Trinity Church offers Sunday School for children 5-12 on the second Sunday of each month during the school year. The children are excused from worship after the Prayer of the Day to go to their Sunday School room with their teachers and return during the Offering time. On the remaining Sundays of each month there are brief “Children Chats” during worhsip to provide a weekly faith formation opportunity. If there is need, a Nursery is available for children younger than 5 years.

In addition to Sunday School for children, there is programming for youth, ages 13-15 to prepare them for Affirmation of Baptism/Confirmation. Currently the classes are provided in partnership with Bethel Lutheran Church in Winchester.
