“What’s this world coming to?” The circumstances that call forth this question are different for different people, but the question occurs to nearly all of us at some point in our lives. The gospel reading for this Sunday speaks comfort and encouragement to people who feel powerless in the face of huge changes. The world in general, as well as our individual lives, can be very frightening. When we are afraid, Jesus gives us himself as the example of trusting God in all things. When we fail to act out of trust like his, still he is there, redeeming us and our future from fear. The Living One will lead us into life.
